Those of you who know me, know that I just love sculpture. And Neon. So when I heard that East London gallery Parasol Unit had invited Nathaniel Rackowe to show a light sculpture in their back yard as part of their Parasolstice – Winter Light series, I was first over the fence.
Nathaniel creates beautiful contemporary sculpture which engages viewers, often combining light and neon with rugged metals and mechanical elements. His ‘Black Shed Expanded’ appears like a garden shed in mid explosion with florescent light pouring from the inside. Anyone who can channel Rachel Whiteread’s monumental sculpture mixed with a bit of Dan Flavin gets my thumbs up.
The shed gets taken down on the 12th of March next year, so you have plenty of time to see it. Click the links above for more information on Nathaniel and how to get to the gallery. See what Nathaniel is up to now by following him on Instagram here.
